Rui Martins

Rui Fernando Martins graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST/UTL) (1991-1996) and obtained his MSc and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from IST/UTL in 1999 and 2005, respectively. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) of NOVA School of Science & Technology and Member of the Board of Directors of UNIDEMI Research Centre. He also is a Member of the Executive Committee of DEMI, the Coordinator of the Group DESE – Design, Experimentation and Simulation in Engineering of UNIDEMI, and the Coordinator of the Mechanical Engineering Integrated Master and of the new Master in Mechanical Engineering.  His research activities relate to the failure analysis of mechanical systems and the promotion of their structural integrity, the mechanical behaviour of materials at room and high temperatures, and the mechanical design and development of products. He published more than 60 papers in international scientific journals and participated in national research projects. He is a member of the National Technical Committee for Standardization CT 115/SC9 – Structural Eurocodes and of the Portuguese Society for Structural Integrity (SPFIE).
