The “SPFIE Award for the Best PhD Thesis” is a Fracture and Structural Integrity Portuguese Association initiative to recognize the work of newly doctored candidates in Portuguese Structural Integrity Engineering or similar areas. The winner will be selected among the candidates, according to the award regulations and announced at the biannual Structural Integrity Conference, acknowledging the Engineering students’ academic merit and promoting Engineering in society. Applications will be open until the end of the year before the Conference, and all PhD students finishing their thesis in the previous two years may apply. 

The jury is comprised of two permanent members and one invited personality.

The “SPFIE Carrier Award” goal is to recognize the academic carrier and lifetime scientific activities of a distinguished Portuguese researcher. The award is attributed in the biannual Association Conference and decided by a jury comprised by the conference Chairperson (acting as the jury president) and the remaining members of the association executive committee. 

The “SPFIE Scientific Merit Award” goal is to recognize the scientific developments and achievements by a Portuguese researcher in the area of Fracture and Structural Integrity, on the previous couple of years. The award is attributed in the biannual Association Conference and by a jury comprised by the association executive committee members.
