He is the director of the Structural Integrity and Advanced Monitoring Unit of INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, coordinating an interdisciplinary team of about 30 members. He obtained the PhD (2008) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto. His research interests are mainly focused on Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Structural Integrity, and Experimental Mechanics. He is the chair of the Portuguese Society for Structural Integrity (SPFIE), and the secretary of the ESIS Executive Committee. He led scientific events such as the International Conference on Structural Integrity.
