Biography
He is the director of the Optical and Mechanical Experimental Unit of INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, coordinating an interdisciplinary team of about 30 members. He obtained the PhD (2008) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Porto. His research interests are mainly focused on Fracture Mechanics, Fatigue, Structural Integrity, Experimental Mechanics, NDI and Advanced Manufacturing Processes. He is the chair of the Portuguese Society for Structural Integrity (SPFIE), and a member of the ESIS Executive Committee. He led scientific events such as the International Conference on Structural Integrity and will be the Chairman of the European Conference on Fracture (ECF23) that will be organized in 2020.

Biography
Graduated in Mechanical Engineering and received his PhD degree at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) – University of Lisbon (UL), where he is Associate Professor and has been teaching and simultaneously conducting and coordinating research on several different fields such as Product design and development, Mechanical design Mechanical characterization of materials, Structural integrity, Material´s selection. He has been a collaborator in several International and National research projects and has been training several PhD and MSc students. He has been active in peer review activity for different international journals and he is author/co-author of numerous publications in referred journals and conference proceedings.

Biography
Virginia Infante has an MSc in 1998 and a PhD in 2002 in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal. Since 1995, she has been working in mechanical behaviour of materials and has been involved in several national and international research projects. Currently Virginia Infante is Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IST. She has special expertise in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Fatigue Design, Structural Materials, Fatigue & Fracture of Materials, Improvement Techniques, Railway Sector, Welded Joints, RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintenance and Safety), Life Cycle Costs.
She has published over 30 international journal papers on the field of fatigue. She is a member of the editorial board of Engineering Failure Analysis Journal
